The Harry E. Patton scholarship fund was created in 1977 by the Springfield Township ladies auxillary in honor of Fire Chief Harry Patton, Springfield Township's very first Fire Chief. The fund was later controlled by the Crissey road Firemen's association, and today the scholarship fund is still actively supported by the fire department association and local 3544.
To date, the scholarship fund has distributed nearly 50 scholarships to local high school students looking to further their education in college. In May of 2006 alone, 5 scholarships were awarded totalling $3,000.
Money is raised for the scholarship fund by the various fund raising activities of the fire department association and the union, as well as donations from private individuals and businesses. The firefighters of Springfield Township are committed to continuing the scholarship fund and hope that the scholarships awarded continue to grow in amount.
